Studying ophthalmic dispensing

On an ophthalmic dispensing course, you’ll learn optical principles and their relation to effective correction of errors with refraction in the human eye. These are intensive courses during which you’ll study a mixture of classroom-based and practical learning in order to develop your skills. Many students go on to practice as a dispensing optician after completing their degree. In order to get onto this career path, you’ll need to register with the Association of British Dispensing Opticians, which typically will require you to pass further exams and complete a year of supervised work. After this you are able to register with the General Optical Council.
