Studying architectural design

Architectural design sits at the intersection of many creative and technical fields. A truly interdisciplinary subject, it blends art, science, technology and design while allowing for many different types of cultural and personal expression. Career paths are similarly varied and include architects, interior designers, researchers, writers, urban planners, and engineers. Students commonly cover topics like architectural history and context, design principles, construction technology, technical drawing, sustainability, physical model making, and computer-aided design (CAD). At postgraduate level, students can extend their understanding in many academic directions while honing their technical skills and building a professional portfolio. A masters degree is a required stage in the journey to becoming a chartered architect.
