Food technology is not simply about learning to make dishes; it’s also about enhancing taste, understanding nutrition and sustainability, and developing innovations in how food is produced, packaged, and consumed. Common topics studied include food chemistry, microbiology, hygiene and sanitation, and sustainable production methods, and at postgraduate level students can specialise in areas like food biotechnology or nutrition. Careers which can be built with a food technology qualification are broad and varied, and can range from food scientist and flavourist, to quality control expert, product designer, or supply chain manager.
