Social anthropology is the comparative study of human societies, cultures, and behaviours. It examines how people interact, form communities, and construct identities, using ethnographic research to explore and analyse different social systems. Students learn anthropological theories and ethnographic fieldwork methods, covering topics like customs and rituals, economic and political organisation, law and conflict resolution, patterns of consumption and kinship and family structure. Careers can include work as a cultural researcher, educator, or in a diverse range of consultancy fields, and postgraduate research enables students to focus on one of a huge range of topics such as any particular region, time period, technology, religion, language, or behaviour.
