The engineering facilities are brilliant, and well utilised within the practiacl teaching scheme. The lecturers are generally available to help when you get stuck with issues, and are known on a personal level creating a good professional dynamic within the department. The Students Union could do more to support students, with course committe items regarding whole university changes making extremely slow progress that is not visible to the students. Additionally there have been times where issues surrounding the computers specifications have been overlooked leading to sub par computers (An issue that is now being fixed having got through to someone that listened, but I think should have already been taken care of)
The facilities are brilliant and well utilised. The course is well put together to have a good balance of technical knowledge required to become and engineer, and practical experience problem solving and applying skills in an industry based manner, preparing you well for the future as a professional engineer.
Good halls that were nicely looked after and suited well for thee first year of study.
Good: Working farm provides good facilities, good quality affordable accommodation. Range of societies and clubs to get involved with. Bad: SU events are expensive, not enough lecturers in my course area.
Needs more lecturers. Good amount of contact time and we’ll balanced between lectures and tutorials and practical sessions.
Apply early.
Fantastic student support and well put together courses. Student life could be improved along with timetabling issues
Veterinary nursing course is hard but the support is amazing. Content in lectures is well delivered with interactive content. Placements are amazing and helped to organise by your placement tutor.
Good if you enjoy a party! Difficult if you need sleep or have an exam the next day
Great university when you’re living off campus too. Loved every minute of being at harper
Even during covid-19 the lectures were very easy to follow and in depth. They really care about your learning and how to make it interesting for everyone regardless of the topic. Practicals are also amazing and the facilities on campus are absolutely brilliant
The staff are very helpful and usually reply to emails in a timely manner. The facilities are really good and modern. The uni is a bit out in the sticks so you really need to drive if you go to Harper. Also the SU activities are pretty much all revolved around drinking and clubbing so it depends if you like that or not.
I prefer the in person taught sessions to online and blended learning approaches. For the most part we are taught in person but probably 70-80% is online still even though we’re out of covid now which is a little frustrating. I think the contact time is appropriate considering how many assignments you have alongside your dissertation.
Unless you drive Harper isn’t very accessible, there is no train stations near by and apart from the shuttle bus run by the uni your options are very limited. The closest town of Newport is very small and there’s not much to do unless you go further from the uni. There is a club on campus and one in Newport as well as a lot of pubs. It definitely feels like a safe place to live though but is not very diverse at all.
I liked that we did a questionnaire to match us with similar people and they did a really good job in our flat. We had a cleaner come in daily for the kitchen and once weekly cleaned our rooms. The en-suite showers were really good and any problems were fixed quickly. There’s a scanner to get into the building, a key to get into your flat and then a key to your own room also. The kitchen is spacious with enough seats for everyone and 2 sets of ovens, hobs, fridge freezers and sinks. Can’t really fault the accommodation apart from it was the most expensive option but that’s because it’s en-suite.
I enjoy the social side of the university and the chance to get involved with opportunities that I may not have had otherwise such as with lambing and milking etc. I’m not really sure how to improve it
There is a good mix of online and in person teaching. Some modules have a lot of in person teaching that may be better suited to being online as they do not always get through the content for that session in the time allotted for the class which can leave it feeling disjointed.
The rooms were nice with a good amount of space and don’t feel prison like/claustrophobic. The cleaners were lovely. There was not a lot of cupboard space in the communal kitchen though.
Very nice campus and facilities but the remoteness of the area makes commuting difficult
Good amount of contact hours with lecturers, some modules seem a bit irrelevant and slow
No sofa :(
The staff are really lovely. Since moving away from home in Northern Ireland, my lectures have made me feel so welcome that I feel like harper adams is my second home
I love how we get hands on the university farm but I feel like we could have more contact time with tutors
I like having an en suite but the kitchen can be a mess sometimes due to the other people living here
The best aspects are all the great opportunities and experiences I have gained throughout the last 4 years! The worst aspect has to be COVID ruining some of our tears!
The best aspects of the course are all the new things you get to learn and the worst aspects is how difficult it can be sometimes!
The thing I liked most about halls was meeting new people and having a new experience and the least thing I liked was having to cook my own food sometimes when I’d had a busy day at uni
Best = support from the university, look of the campus is always amazing and always feel like you have someone to talk to. Worst = sometimes doesn't tackle the larger issues in the best way (such as homophobia and racism)
I enjoy the blended approach of teaching and I have a good amount of course hours for the money. Always able to reach a lecturer for help. Enjoy the content.
Quite expensive for what it is but think that's all halls!
