The best thing about Loughborough university is there is always something to do or a match to watch. Sport is constantly being played everywhere. As well as BUCS, there is also an IMS league so that more people can join in with competitive sport. My hall is a community with a family feel. The Union is always full and no matter where you are in Loughborough, there is always someone you know. Everyone is very friendly. However, the Union and campus in general is fairly expensive which doesn’t help when being a student.
I love the variety of modules that are offered and I love the courses the uni offers. The teaching quality isn’t the best and some lecturers aren’t the best at explaining and assume you know everything.
Faraday is the best hall. It’s a community and I settled in really well due to the friendliness of the committee and all the activities during freshers week.
The campus feels cheery and community led. One of the best things about the uni is how the halls are placed and how everyone bonds together on campus. Could do better with access to mental health support & student services.
Online exams are amazing - and preparation for exams are very good. contact hours with personal tutors are limited, and could be enforced more in the later years of study. I would also have liked to see more range in module options, lots of the modules which I was most interested in ended up cancelled.
Amazing location! Central to everything on campus, super quick walk to the Union nights out & super social. Cayley new blocks in particular are phenomenal! Dining hall food needs to be better, but there are lots of options for catered.
Loughborough University has everything you need in terms of academics.
My course is taught in person, with videos to watch before lectures sometimes. There is a lot of lectures and work, but this is just engineering.
CP is the best hall on Campus.
Immersive sporting environment
Limited module options
Friendly atmosphere Expensive
There are lots of study spaces available, very quite and accessible a lot of the time. There is an amazing community feel around the university. The campus is great, meaning everything is close together, with not much travelling needed. I feel like i need more support 1 to 1 with aspects of my course and that isn’t an option.
There is very little learning time for the course, with a variety of ways of learning. The course content is very standard, as i am only a first year. Some lecturers don’t give enough content, meaning i struggle when it comes to revising. We don’t get any 1 to 1 support, which i personally would find beneficial. I would prefer more interactive learning, such as seminars for all modules instead of a select few.
The halls are a great way to make friends, and the freshers events definitely helped facilitate that. We get our kitchens and rooms cleaned often, and we have access to a communal hub. There is 24/7 support from wardens and sun wardens. The accommodation is very expensive, with some amenities not working fully, even though the halls are new (2019). The wifi often fails, but the 4G signal is okay.
Facilities, campus feel and safety are all amazing. I feel there could be more opportunities and events for people to network and make friends at the very beginning of the year.
The teaching quality and the resources are amazing. However, we have very limited contact with out personal academic tutors.
The location is good, being right next to the library and the noisy nightlife center. Other than the kitchen there is no shared space within each flat, which limits socializing as there isn't even a table in the kitchen.
Loughborough University is a renowned institution in the UK, offering a variety of programs at undergraduate, postgraduate and research levels. Its reputation for providing high-quality education has made it a popular choice for students from all over the world. I’ml highlighting the best parts of studying at Loughborough University and also suggest some areas for improvement in this review. ∆Best Parts of Studying at Loughborough University: High-Quality Education: Loughborough University is ranked as one of the best universities for master's education in the UK, making it a great choice for students who are looking for high-quality education. The university boasts experienced lecturers who not only cover academics but have practical experience with reputed brands like BritVic, Adidas, Deloitte, HSBC, KPMG, and more. This combination of theoretical and practical knowledge makes the education at Loughborough University truly valuable. Empathetic and Resourceful Administration: The administration staff at Loughborough University is one of the best. They are empathetic, helpful, and resourceful, which makes it easier for students to navigate the university. This was especially evident during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021, when many students were studying away from their home countries. The administration staff went above and beyond to help students during these tough times. Holistic Development: Loughborough University focuses on the holistic development of its students, providing a well-rounded education that covers academics, group projects, sports activities, and social events. This combination helps students to develop both academically and personally, making the most of their university experience. Ideal Location: Loughborough University is strategically located in the town of Loughborough, away from the hustle and bustle of big cities like London or Manchester. This location provides a peaceful environment for students to focus on their studies. The university also has a full-fledged Pilkington Library, which is a heavily invested asset, allowing students to access a wide range of resources for their studies. ∆Areas for Improvement: Diversity: Loughborough University can improve by focusing more on diversity in its student batches. The university should aim to have a mix of students from different backgrounds and cultures, rather than focusing on a select few markets. Corporate Tours: The university can benefit from arranging more group or corporate tours for students. These tours would provide students with practical exposure to companies and give them a better understanding of the industries they are interested in. In conclusion, Loughborough University is a great institution for students who are looking for high-quality education, a well-rounded university experience, and a peaceful environment to study in. Although there are some areas for improvement, such as focusing more on diversity and arranging corporate tours, the university is well-equipped to provide students with an excellent education and university experience.
During the pandemic phase, the course was on a hybrid mode when we were allowed to attend the uni in person only with limited seating capacity however the quality of education was not affected even when we were attending it online. Since I was in a one year course it is more busy with 5 to 6 hours of teaching hours a day. However we were given enough time for coursework and projects to research and submit them with a good quality work. The lecturers were highly accommodative of our queries during the lectures and were always quick to respond to emails for additional questions or discussions.
Labourers peaceful environment as it is located away from bigger cities. It has lot of sports activities, parks, social events etc which students can participate in to unwind after studies. If you like motor for metro city life than Loughborough would not be a place for you as it's a bit isolated and has limited nightlife and places to eat out
The opportunities to get involved in activities, however niche, are incredible. Campus has a great vibe and the university has a friendly and welcoming feel. The study spaces are great and really varied.
The sports science facilities are excellent at Loughborough, unfortunately we were limited to how much we could use them during the pandemic but now the university has opened up to teaching fully in person again, final year will be a great opportunity to make the most of them. Contact time with lecturers is good, but I would appreciate more contact time with tutors, it doesn’t feel that convenient to schedule meetings with them.
The halls are great for socialising, especially as a fresher, the events organised and committee structure makes meeting people and feeling at home quite easy. Having the option to be catered is also very convenient in terms of juggling works and other commitments. The catered eating arrangement is also a great way to socialise.
It is a great university with friendly staff and students - there is always something to do and take part in. The facilities are excellent, especially the sports ones. The non-sports facilities like the library and other department buildings look extremely run down externally and visually aren't very attractive at all. It is also quite far into town to get to a supermarket if you don't want to have to pay to get a bus or a taxi.
The lecturers are helpful with answering questions and upload lots of examination resources for practice. Some powerpoint could have more information to be made clearer as well as more suggestions to wider reading content ie. specific chapters. Another point would be that there are no seminars or smaller group sessions and so it is harder to meet new people and become friends.
It is in a perfect location in relation to the Student's Union and also lecture halls. I have a great en-suite room with a spacious kitchen/living area. However, some blocks don't have as big kitchens and there is also hardly any fridge/freezer space.
The union is the best place to chill with friends during the day and party during night. Really safe place as well because everything is inside the campus. The facilities are mainly new or well preserved. Mainly design school is quite amazing in terms of facilities. Would absolutely recommend.
The curse content and teaching as well as the prospects are definitely the best in this Uni. The teachers make every single lecture memorable. Each text and poem is quite interesting in how they explain it and present it or analyze it in seminars. Tutor time is quite reduced though, just a few times in the semester .
Overall Elvyn is amazing. Just wonderful. Only bad comment is the food, not always the best but definitely edible.
