Our collection of real, honest student reviews of unis and courses is the largest in the UK, and help you make well-informed decisions about your future. A couple of the student resident halls could do with updating but the students are great, lecturers are engaging and helpful and the SU has become what it says on the tin: a Union for Student Voices to be heard. I love Harper because it’s smaller than city universities but still has so much to offer… an amazing student life, fantastic academic study opportunities, great relations within industries and a brilliant mental health and welfare support team.
Tutor contact time throughout 1st and 2nd year is great, but could do with improvement (ie more of it) in 4th year! Our cohort really benefit from sessions and study being timetabled so they might better allocate their time and use the sessions to better direct thei individual learning.
Could do with updating! Some halls are newer whilst others remain tired looking… communal spaces in the catered accommodation halls should be increased as the kitchen provides space for about 3 of the 14 people in the block to socialise!
Teaching is very good and personalised, You are definitely a person not a number. Accessing course info and materials is really easy and there's lots available. Night out on campus are always great. Communication especially in terms of assignment results and feedback could be improved. Societies are great, there's something for everyone. Getting to Newport is a struggle especially with the bus which needs improving
Teaching is generally good if a little rushed at times. Course tutor is always useful. Hours are good, there's a perfect mix of contact time and time to relax and get work done. Some modules need to get more organised and ensure students have all the materials and times to do their assignments. Lectures are all really knowledgeable and helpful and are lovely people.
It's quiet. Things are fixed fast. There's a lot of space and a nice garden. Kitchen is a little small but does the job. There's lots of space to put things and the cleaners ensure things are clean.
The facilities on campus are amazing for the courses offered. I’m able to work with live animals to apply my knowledge to real life situations. The staff are so friendly and knowledgeable and the fact they’re all experienced having worked in the field themselves, provides practical as well as academic knowledge
I love being able to work with animals in my tutorials. If I miss any lectures because of sickness I can watch them online so I’m never behind. The lecturers keep in regular contact and are so helpful with anything you need
Harper Adams is working hard to make this the university diverse and inclusive. However, this can sometimes be at the risk of current students. some courses can sometimes feel they are being left out of opportunities due to lack of funding. Harper adams can sometimes forget their agricultural roots but still boost being one of the best universities for practical degrees
Nearly all lectures and tutorials are taught in person with only a handful of online tutorials. With everything on one campus lecturers are often easy to find and therefore easy to get a hold of. The compulsory placement is an excellant opportunity and sets students up for future careers
Halls have changed in the last 3 years. These halls are ensuite and at the time felt okay value for money. They are also catered on weekdays. however the lack any social space and the kitchens provided for weekends contained a toaster, microwave and kettle, which was not adequate enough.
Worst aspects- agrics largely represented Best aspects- vet nursing course practicals and introduction of TOBAs. Study rooms ideal
Practicals good Worst aspects- assignments quite bundled together
Most- clean and tidy quite modern Worst- security when people returning from drinking etc
It feels like a home away from home
Tutors are very helpful and are willing to help at any time of day
Very small town with little shops so you need to travel to get to a bigger shop
Very central on campus, however very close to SU night club so could hear music and shouting when sleeping.
I like that the location isn't in the city. It is located in thr country side. Therefore, we can take trips to different fields and go to the university Farm for practicals.
The worst thing would probably be that we have assignments due but our teachers are still teaching us the content in order to the assignment right up until it is due in. I love that we have a combination of lectures and tutorials. I like being able to do lab practicals. I really like that everything is in person rather than online. I find it easier to understand and focus.
I liked being on the top floor as it was quieter and away from the chaos and loudness of the bottom 2 floors. I think that It can feel a bit intimidating as we had some people trying our doors and trying to enter our rooms who weren't even from our uni.
Everyone is very friendly and welcoming, and with it being a small campus the staff know you by your name.
Average around 17 contact hours per week.
The wifi is great but there is unfortunately no/very poor service inside the halls.
The surrounding areas are beautiful with a good night life, however the organisation of transport for large university events when queuing in town needs to be organised better
Great course and great staff that are always there to help. I have no comments for improvements
The catering is great although facility’s for cooking during weekends could be improved
