Amazing course with knowledgable and interesting lecturers. The campus isn’t in a main city, so not much to do near by and the SU usually isn’t that busy. Cardiff is a 20 min drive away though so not completely estranged. Halls are really nice, with big rooms and a community feel! Pints cheap in the SU as well :)
Amazing new facilities, lecturers so passionate about the subject and makes you feel the same way! Great library and on campus places to study. Lots of contact time with the course, hardly any remote learning which is a lot but makes sure you really get the most out of your uni experience!
Cheaper than accomodation in most city universities. Mountain halls is really nice, rooms spacious and lots and lots of students stay around the same areas/ halls so you can never be bored!! The SU pub is a 2 min walk and the gym, so is very handy.
very supportive and helpful.
course content is a bit everywhere with lectures not turning up and unsure what they are doing
The University of South Wales (USW) is an academic gem that stands as a beacon of hope for students seeking exceptional education, unparalleled career prospects, and flexibility in their pursuit of success. As a proud alumnus, I can confidently say that USW has unlocked a world of possibilities, ensuring that students not only excel in their studies but also leap confidently into the workforce. One of USW's most remarkable features is its unwavering dedication to providing flexibility for its students. On campus sessions and recently adapted hybrid e-learning was emerged ever since pandemic ended. Countless opportunities has unlocked as the psychology pallet (academic writing, critical formulation, researching, theory and psychology plus opportunities); course masters the sphere of behaviour and mental health allowing pupils enjoy it through the diverse complexity sessions, asynchronous and synchronous learning, assessment submission requiring students to challenge themselves and become independent academics. Once completed BSc programme students will be expected to choose the sphere they want to develop in (from counselling, conversation psychology, clinical psychology to criminology). The course is adapted for theoretical building and ensuring the main educational license could be put in various use of student's successful career.
Stayed there for one year. The halls are ensured in space-comfort and all facilities are included, the price is slightly high making it difficult for independent student to live through, neverthelss, it can be a good start for young students: going further from family to become more grown individuals managing their life and slowly becoming educated adults. The campus itself is massive facility and if engaged well with all open facilities with confidence it will feel like actual home for set time period. Different sport, food, beverage and educational programme areas are open on academic term, giving students ability to socialise in safe space.
Lots of lovely teachers and study spaces.
Good communication from most lecturers.
The university is extremely supportive with an excellent well-being and disability service. It promotes inclusion and delivers a range of courses both online and on campus. The staff are helpful and approachable and the library offers outstanding resources. The location is good and the buildings utilise modern facilities however parking is an issue with spaces limited
Staff are supportive and responsive. The course is delivered via blended learning methods but is very well managed. Placements are allocated 4 weeks prior to the them commencing and are within 1 hour travel of your registered address. Placements are varied and can be requested in certain areas but are not always accommodated due to demand.
The winning factor about my university is its picturesque location. With hills and trees as far as your eyes can see, it is a very calming environment to study. It is great for a student's mental health. It has been very helpful for my mental health personally. Moreover, my course was very attractive as a student for me with its industry grade hangars and metal workshops. However, if my university engages the students more and get their opinions about things, it'll aid them in improving the university. I find that my university's revenue department is lacking in many ways including being empathetic. No matter what situation it is, it is important to be kind and empathetic to another person, as you don't know what they are struggling through. Hence, I feel like my university is very business like and has no real empathy for its students.
There is no worst aspects in my course. Rated as the number one university to offer my course in Wales, my university gives industry standard education and training with my course. My course entitles more real life training practically more so than being in a classroom and learning theoretically. This helps the student learn more than build their confidence working in a real life work environment. Preparing them for the future.
Every member of staff is so supportive and the facilities are really good, there’s two libraries and an advice zone within one of them. You get hands on experience with regular practicals where you use the equipment straight away and get fully suited up for CSI practicals and go into a separate house only for CSI purposes. Travel is also really nice as there’s a minibus that takes you from the glytaff campus for free from the accommodation. The treforest campus is just right now to the accommodation so you just have to go down some steps and you’re on campus. Even though it doesn’t apply to me as I’m quiet and don’t like drinking, the only thing I’ve talked to some people that is lacking is nightlife. There is two bars and clubs within the student union and events on all the time but in the town itself there isn’t a lot to do in that regard. There is however, events on every week in the hub which you can go to and meet new people, one of which is therapy dogs that occurs in the first week but comes back every now and then where you get to be around dogs and hang out with friends or go on your own.
Every lesson I’ve had so far has been in person, there was one online lesson scheduled at the start but it got changed to in person. This has been really helpful because I feel more focused in person as compared to if I’m in my room, I have enjoyed uni a lot more because of it. For forensic science, I’ve had a lot more lesson time than people in my flat taking other subjects and contact hours with lectures have been really nice. For most of my modules where it’s just been forensic science students, groups have been small so I can get more individual support about topics I’ve been struggling with in class. Lecturers are really helpful and kind about it too, I don’t have a single lecturer who I don’t like or who isn’t willing to help struggling students. Despite the busier timetable as well, you do get days off - one or two a week maybe three if you’re lucky so there is time to relax or do some independent study.
Most = the rooms are really nice and good value for money at usw, they’re a lot cheaper than ones in England and you get more space than them too. I like how all rooms here come with a mini fridge too. Least= sharing a kitchen if you’re not really friends with your flatmates. If you don’t sort out a schedule as to who cooks when then it’s difficult because you could go in to cook your dinner and someone else is in there cooking there’s which isn’t their fault but it is annoying sometimes.
Over all mid More interactive classes instead of a 3 to 4 hour lecture
Some lecturers mean good but are bad
Everything is good here
The teaching quality on this course is very poor.
A lot of contact hours , work isn’t overwhelming and interesting course. However the accommodation services are rather poor.
Mostly contact hours in more of a classroom setting. Prefer this but lectures are scattered around through the day making it slightly awkward
Not amazing value for money. Services are poor took them 3 months to fix a leak and ignore all of our emails
