Best aspects: location, lecturers and facilities Worst aspects: can be difficult to find rooms/buildings
Best: lecturers encourage discussion and are constructive in feedback. I have not yet started work placements but the support available is looking promising
Close to uni which is very useful, but room does not have best view, and booking process could have been far smoother to allow real view of room before making a decision.
It’s a great place to study as classes aren’t huge so it’s easy to get extra support. It could be improved with more things to do
The course is taught in person which is better. You have 4 hours per subject per week and you can contact lecturers at any time
You pay £800 per month which is just absolutely ridiculous. There isn’t even a Tv in the kitchen
Best being the close proximity of everything and the worst being the hilly location
Best aspect is the subjects and the cases within them and the worse is the essays
This hall is great because it’s cheap but however it’s on a steep hill which is a pain
The beautiful scenery and surrounding area make it a perfect place to study a subject such as an environmental science. The facilities are some of the best I’ve seen compared to most other universities I had looked around. The staff and student union are incredibly helpful and understanding, and have always been able to convey information clearly in a concise manner. There’s always an event happening every single day and they span a wide selection of genres- from movie nights and pub crawls, to workshops, club socials etc. it’s kind of impossible to be bored here (both in and out of lectures!). The only drawback I’ve found so far is, because it’s such a small close-knit city, it can be a little difficult to find work here while you’re studying- but there’s plenty of support for both finding a job and handling your money while at uni!
Course content is typically taught in-person but there is always an online recording available for every single lecture for those who are unable to make it for whatever reason. In-person practicals/field trips etc always come with digital materials to accommodate those who are physically unable to participate due to a disability or an absence. Days are never completely overloaded with lectures, they’re always spread fairly well throughout the week. With a mixture of early/late starts, some shorter days and some longer days, I never find my weeks to feel boring or repetitive. I personally would prefer to have more contact time with tutors but I feel like there is still a good amount of scheduled time with them throughout the year.
My biggest worry when moving into halls was noise levels- I feel the stereotype is that halls are always poorly constructed with thin walls but I don’t have a single complaint when it comes to these halls. There is little to no noise audible from neighbours. The rooms are fitted with an efficient and quick heating system so you’re basically never left freezing in your dorm. The rooms are some of the most generously sized I’ve seen compared to any other uni dorm I have viewed personally- and there’s plentiful storage space already provided for you. Kitchen facilities and space are great, I personally find the kitchen has made for a comfortable, welcoming spot for friends and flatmates to congregate and get to know each other too! I feel your safety and comfort are taken pretty seriously here too, it’s incredibly easy to contact maintenance for any reason, plus regular fire alarms, and a good amount of security between your dorm and the outside. It’s super easy and straightforward to change rooms if you unfortunately don’t get along with your flatmates too. Views from most of the accommodations overlook the mountains and it’s such a stunning view to wake up to.
Worst- all the hills Best - The lecturers are amazing, fully interactive and friendly
Taught in class and really personal, plenty of contact hours and the lecturers are helpful with everything Worst-there isn't anything bad about my course I could name
Signal/ phone reception could be better but its Wales Halls is close to everything you might need, has a on site bar and shop which are both well priced
The best aspect is very conducive environment for teaching learning with readily available resources. The faculty is down to earth and there are a lot of support based offices created to readily address all individual concerns and challenges. I do not have any ugly experience yet.
A lot of networking opportunities for Mini Pupillage. Small size class that allows for quality lecturer-student engagement. Course contents adequately covered in lectures and tutorials. I look forward to more internship opportunities and placement schemes.
Ready access to part time job is a bit of a challenge for international student, and I believe the majority of the student population, and this is because the town is relatively small and commercial activities might not be as vibrant as other city centers
Privacy and and cleaned sanitation regulations are ensured.
Best - Clinical Placement experience Worst - Slow Student Administration
Best - Clinical Placement Worst - Interprofessional Modules
WiFi is abysmal
The university is in such a beautiful location and the town is small enough where you can walk everywhere. The student services are extensive and efficient, and there is a strong focus on community within the university. To improve I would suggest that the library be open 24/7 for students all year around.
All of my sessions are in person and very engaging. The lecturers are very involved and extremely helpful. The timetable isn’t too busy where it feels stressful, and there are enough contact hours to ensure that I’m still engaging with content regularly. There is a wide range of module options, and I would suggest they allow us to chose more than one optional module.
I loved that St Mary’s is very well managed, and all the staff are very friendly. It is in a quieter location which I preferred, however there was a lack of student facilities that were otherwise available in the other student village - Ffriddoedd. I would have liked to have had more activity hubs where societies could meet.
stellar faculty, good facilities, nice location
Best: Friendly and supportive faculty members, good curricilum
I’m really enjoying my uni experience, I feel like I’m getting lots of support for my classmates and tutors, and very quickly a plsp in place for my disabilities. The location and campus is beautiful, just a great experience all round
Haven’t really heard anything about placements yet, most of the lecturers are amazing but sometimes I feel like they can begin to rush their lecture and I can struggle to keep up when this happens
