The overall experience at Loughborough is second to none. The teaching on my course and extra-circular opportunities the University/Students’ Union has offered me have been fantastic! I highly recommend it to other prospective students in the future.
Loughborough University’s main site sits in the middle of England, in between the cities of Leicester and Nottingham. It’s a campus uni and prides itself on its community spirit, which is one of the reasons it’s won the Whatuni Student’s Choice University of the Year award on several occasions.
The town of Loughborough is small so a lot of the students’ extracurricular activities and nightlife are created at the university itself. Much of this comes from Loughborough’s famous students’ union, which is regarded as one of the best in the country. Owned and managed by students, the union works hard to organise and promote a fun environment for the students, with plenty going on.
On the academic side of things, Loughborough University aims to conduct highly relevant research, especially focusing on the arts, humanities, social sciences, sport, design, engineering and maths.
Sport is taken very seriously at Loughborough, both at the performance and recreational level, meaning the uni has built a strong reputation on that front over the years. Should you not wish to represent the university, students can play for their halls in over 30 sports, making Loughborough’s student-led sports programme one of the biggest in the country.
The university was founded in 1909 and in 2015 a second campus was opened in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London.
