The 2021 academic year is right around the corner. With Clearing opening soon, new students are having to prepare for what’s to come next.

Recent situational changes have created uncertainty amongst many students, with individuals asking ‘what will it be like as a university student?’. Come Autumn, students both old and new will be faced with a slightly different type of university experience, shaped and moulded by the events of the past few months.

But will things be so different? With in-person teaching having resumed back in May, along with relying on the 200,000+ strong treasure trove of Whatuni’s student reviews, students can effectively prepare for the year to come.

How Will the Student Experience Differ?

Given the easing in restrictions and in-person teaching having resumed back in May, students are able to get a somewhat normal student experience at university. Students are still encouraged to stay home if they are self-isolating, continue practicing good hand hygiene and wear face masks where required.

How Can You Still Effectively Use Reviews?

Regardless of how the pandemic has altered the upcoming student experience, the value of our student reviews remains indispensable. With over 200,000 student reviews on our site, we can provide you with transparent insight into the student experience at institutions across the UK. With these reviews you can start to build an understanding of what you can expect from your university experience, how much support currently exists, and why you should, or maybe shouldn’t, choose that uni.

For those of you going through Clearing, you can employ the use of student reviews to compare and contrast your top 5. Getting insight from current students on the experience they have had so far will allow you to make a more informed decision.

If you are a Year 12 student entering your final year of school, our reviews should be used through the admissions process. If you are looking to study in 2021, beginning your research now will enable you to find the university and course most suited to you and your needs. Come Autumn 2021, universities should be operating as close as possible to how they were pre-Coronavirus. Thus, Whatuni’s student reviews will be even more relevant - given they were collected pre-Coronavirus.

This university year will be a new learning experience for everyone. However, excitement about the upcoming academic year should not be lost. Universities have had ample time to take the necessary precautions to make their campus a safe space for everyone. If you're faced with remote learning, remember this only improves your skills in collaboration, time management, and how to work flexibly - all of which will be invaluable in the working world. Most universities will be taking a flexible approach to the upcoming year too, allowing you to optimise your decision-making.

In the meantime, if you’re a prospective student (whether decided or undecided on where you’ll be studying), read through the bank of reviews embedded on our website. If you know where you’ll be studying come Autumn, keep on top of all of your university’s announcements, along with the regular updates we will be providing on our website.
