Great staff who are keen to help and easy to talk to when you have a problem. I think we still in covid state in some ways and need to get back to more interaction.
Lots of contact time with tutors available however you can easily do stuff online due to the online recordings of lectures if you prefer
We were covid year and facilities limited and we still charged same amount
Lovely campus with modern equipment which could be use a bit more then now.
Some modules are not really related and needed for the course. More quality practical lertures will be good in first and second year.
Big kitchen, quite spacious room, 8 rooms per kitchen, washing room near by. Self-catered with en-suit bathroom.
It has amazing facilities, the buildings, labs and research centers are great, especially for post graduate research. The lecturers and supervisors are very very supportive and always willing to guide even out of working hours. It has such a great community feel. I feel like a member of one big family. Student services are very supportive and always having outreach to students so even I as an international student, I do not feel left out. The only concern might be location, because the uni is located in somewhat of a village and the transport public transport connection is not as frequent as the cities, so having private transport is an added advantage. This cannot really be changed but more for the student to be aware beforehand.
The course work is amazing. I have enjoyed all my modules both taught and for the research aspect. My only concern was on one online module for data science which I really struggled with because the lessons were offered through teams and that was a challenge for me because it was a technical and fairly new subject topic for me.
The uni is located in a village like setup. The place is peaceful, serene and quiet which I quite like but public transport ends by 6pm so unless you have private means or take a taxi, you cannot really move about much. The transport is also not very frequent like in the cities, so bus waiting times are up to 30 mins. Most employers are looking for full time workers, so as an international student with restricted working hours getting a job was very challenging.
The halls were amazing and private and cleaned regularly so even the shared facilities were nice to use. Just sometimes the school wifi had maintenance and on those days network didn’t have good connection.
In a rural area with like minded people, where everyone knows each other. To improve lower prices in the SU
Amazing facilities, some teachers not great but feedback has improved
Good facilities
The great thing about Harper is that because of it being small in nature there is a family feel to knowing everyone. The campus is pretty dead in terms of not having a lot of do other than lectures which is a shame as you can't even stay on campus to get food past 3pm. The union is really friendly and have done a lot for us but I sometimes feel that they are disadvantaged because they are so small and are so reliant on everything making money - unfortunately some of the facilities haven't been invested in and are in poor condition which is embarrassing when other universities come onto to campus I know this is a university issue rather than the unions.
Lecturers are mostly brilliant and will offer the opportunity to learn in different ways if you don't understand. FBM however is often taught by a lecturer who is quite belittling if you are struggling and we had very limited contact time with him as he had pre-recorded stuff from covid in replacement of teaching time - this one module and lecturer brought my whole experience down.
Students often get the blame for poor behaviour rom locals which is a shame
We had a break in to our kitchen when I was an undergraduate from some non-students who used a big kitchen knife to confuse the magnets keeping the door closed. We had just gone into our friends room down the hall to help move something and luckily missed something - a girls car was stolen. We also had been placed in flat with the exact same people we asked not to be and with 2nd and 4th years who had learning difficulties and nowhere else to live. as the flats above us were all empty for conferences it was just two flats and we really struggled due to this. It felt like because we had done the EFDP 1 year course (most as under 18's) and were allowed back on campus as a new intake of freshers that we were just shoved together for ease when actually we should of have the right to be put in halls with other first years.
Rural location but good taxi links on nights out
Small course but good modules
Couldn’t fault
Good
Good
Very good
The animal house was a huge help to my course, to study live animals was a big opportunity that put me above the rest. Having an actual behaviourist lecture was really good, if they were able to teach more/have more lectures. Having a business module for my course would be really helpful, as it’s likely our course sets us up for being self employed, I had to find this information elsewhere.
More practical animal work, watching actual animal behaviour/training instead of it being so theoretical would be helpful
Still a lot to live on campus and have basic facilities
Great facilities for the course I am on which offers different aspects to investigate. Accommodation could be improved to allow for more common rooms for more social activities
Great facilities . Contact time can be hard due ti strikes at the moment
Good room with great people , but more space to sit as a flat would be great rather than just in someone’s room
The uni could do with more access to town for people who don’t drive. Eg. Bus The su tickets are very expensive The su put on big events that are well run and fun Society’s are great and inclusive
The course hours are good but would be better if more lectures on different days as very spread out
The town is very small but lots of opitunitys to work on farms
I think the bathrooms could be more updated
