How will BTECs be awarded?
For each unit you've completed towards your BTEC, you'll be awarded a certain amount of points. Usually you'll do a mixture of coursework and exams, but BTECs tend to be more coursework-based. Based on your overall score, you'll be awarded a Pass (P), Merit (M), Distinction (D) or Starred Distinction (D*), with these grades being ordered from the lowest to highest. For the Extended Certificate, based on UCAS points, a D* is the same as A* at A-level, a D is equivalent to an A, an M is equivalent to a C and a P is equivalent to an E.
If you studied an Extended Certificate BTEC (equivalent to one A-level), you'll get a single letter grade back. If you studied one that's equivalent to two A-levels (the Diploma), you'll get two letters as your grade, for example D*D or MM. And - you guessed it - if your BTEC was equivalent to three A-levels (the Extended Diploma), you'll get three letters forming your grade.
When will BTEC results day 2024 be?
Students taking BTECs who need their grades to secure a place at university will be given their grades during the week of August 12th. Most students will receive their grades on August 15th, the same day as A-level results day. If you've studied both A-levels and BTECs, you can expect to get all your results at the same time.
What are your options if you are unhappy with your BTEC grades?
Students will be able to appeal to their school or college if they believe the grade they've been awarded is unfair.
If students wish to take their appeal further, they can it to their exam board for review. This can be taken another step further if they don't agree with the exam board's outcome. This will involve raising a complaint with Ofqual's Exams Procedures Review Service.

What are the resit options for BTEC students?
This depends on the type of BTEC you've taken. If you've studied a BTEC First Level 1/Level 2 Award, BTEC Tech Award, or BTEC Technical, you can resit the external assessment once. If you studied a BTEC National, you're able to resit the external assessment twice.
For internal assessments, you may have the opportunity to resubmit if you're studying a BTEC Level 1 / Entry Level Introductory Suite, a BTEC Level 1/2 Tech Award (Engineering only), BTEC Level 2 or 3 Technical, or BTEC Level 3 National. You must meet the resubmission criteria, which states that you must have met your original deadlines (or, if applicable, your extended deadline) and authenticated your evidence. Your assessor must believe you can achieve better upon resubmission and authenticate your evidence. You'll have 15 working days to resubmit and won't receive further guidance from your teachers. After your resubmission, you would only be granted permission to retake in exceptional circumstances.
What if your BTEC grades don’t match your university entry requirements?
On some occasions, a university will confirm your place even if you've not achieved your offer grades, so be sure to check on UCAS to see whether your place has been confirmed.
If your place hasn't been confirmed, this is by no means the end of the road. Clearing is always an option and will give you another opportunity to gain a university place. Once your results have been confirmed, you'll be able to use UCAS Clearing.

What if your BTEC grades leave you in Clearing?
You still have every reason to be excited. As soon as Clearing is open, you’ll be able to see the courses on offer, compare the different courses that interest you and make a shortlist - including a feature to help you determine your likelihood of getting a place on a specific course. You can browse Clearing courses at any time from when Clearing opens, but you can only apply to Clearing courses after your grades have been confirmed.
