Course is amazing!
Lovely tutors and amazing facilities too
Living on campus almost feels like you are in a little village and there are so many study centers where you can meet so many people and also get so much help, one aspect that I would say is a downfall is the building work that is going on and I know that it is to improve the campus but I was not warned about how noisy it would be rather told it would only be minor
I took a gap year so doing a foundation year is really helping me to fully understand how to write essays again let alone how to write a degree-style essay as well as many other things I am learning extra in this year. I would say however I almost feel like there if more pressure on academic development rather than course knowledge.
The rooms are nice as well as the kitchen by the location is a downfall being right next to building work that starts around 6am waking me up
The best aspect of my uni experience was the overall feel and energy of the campus and teachers. Every professor I’ve had since first year truly loved their subject and are knowledgeable in their fields. I feel as though I have learnt a lot from them in general as well as feeling safe that I can go to them for any sort of help or inspiration
The course is taught very well and is well rounded, what I’ve learnt has been through various different perspectives and have given me such a broad Idea on what the international community is truly about
The value for money to amenities is well spent, I have enjoyed living in east slope and truly felt at home. The comfort of the space and its student lounge has been a highlight of my first year
Best: amazing student support, quality of education and friendly staff Could improve: renew university's accommodation (mattress, carpets, chairs are old and dirty). More job opportunities in Campus
Course could improve class times so students have the opportunity to have a part time job. Overall amazing course with good links between modules
Furniture is really old and dirty. Mattress is terrible and even when I request several times to change, they haven't looked into it. Carpet is also really old and dirty. Room has a good size and storage.
As I study online, I can only comment on the online experience. The student portal, Canva, is easy to navigate and holds all the course material. If you need to work offline then you are able to download the material, which makes you not too wifi dependent (I often read on my commute). And how it's structured gives you full flexibility to work around the course - the only non-flexible aspect are the assignment deadlines. Which again, as you are informed from day 1 what the assignment is, you can start early and work your way through it as you study. The only thing that I would change is the online reading list on Canva, as the code is quite heavy to process and makes me conscious that students in the global south who are also studying and might have temperamental connection are perhaps finding this a barrier. The previous version was very simple and easy for the computer to process (I have an old mac)
The online course is very supportive, the tutors communicate well and there are no stupid questions - only curiosity! The tutors encourage you to post the questions for all to see, because sometimes two people might be thinking the same thing - which means they could share resources for their assignment. They really work hard to build it as a community, where we all support each other - rather than an individual and personally I prefer that. However the only downside is, if you posted a question late on Thursday and the tutor missed it on the Friday, this means that you might be a bit blindsided for your work over the weekend. But this does not happen close to hand in as they are very vigilant! And a tutor will often say if they don't work on Fridays, which ensures that everyone posts their questions on a Wednesday or early Thursday. Great course which is manageable with full time work.
The diversity is great. The wide variety of facility options is wonderful, even though some places could be better in terms of hygiene.
Some of the instructors don’t do a great job in ensuring that our time is used wisely and instead we end up attending workshops where they go on about pointless things and the key concepts aren’t even covered. Lectures should not be mandatory to attend. The timetable does not take into consideration that masters students have a life outside campus and some of the timings just don’t make sense. Some courses need not have both a lecture and a workshop and could instead be merged into one. The course hours are more than enough. In a few modules, assessments don’t really reflect the learning outcomes of the course. Other modules on the other hand are quite enriching and being able to interact with fellow students and exchanging experiences is quite enlightening.
Best aspects is the support and teaching at uni. Worst would have to be the amount of construction currently happening.
Some modules are not very interesting. Best would have to be PAL to help and some lecturers are very fun to listen to.
Elevator broke a lot during the year, and some people were very loud everyday. Close to Coop and laundry places, and very easy to make friends in your building.
The location of the uni is amazing, you’re in the countryside and the city and next to the sea at the same time. The student support is really great and the range of modules you can take is so interesting, especially if you choose electives! The campus has a really friendly feel to it and there are loads of societies.
It is all taught in person with lecture recordings being uploaded to the module pages. There is a good number of hours for flexibility and still be taught lots, it’s also really easy to get in contact with your lecturers. I really like being able to take electives along side modules around my subject.
Northfield is right next to the countryside so you can go and walk along the fields. Having a cleaner help with the kitchen was amazing and really helped reduce the number of arguments in the flat. The rooms are lovely too.
Best - the people, the course modules, the atmosphere of the uni. The location (next to the fields and next to Brighton). Worst-the coop prices are outrageously expensive.
Best - most lectures are engaging and the seminars are normally productive. Most content on our courses are interesting and informative. Worst - some seminars are drab and complicated to work through as a result.
Best - the environment is calm, it is cheap, the rooms are well sized, it is conveniently placed. Worst - it isn't very well maintained, we have silverfish and it can be unpleasant.
Well I love the area, it’s a very beautiful campus (and a large one at that), People seem to be very friendly. My only problem I have at the moment is that the classes currently aren’t engaging enough, I take Film Making, and it is my passion to go into that industry. I want to be excited to learn about my favourite subject, but I’m not challenged or interested at my current level of learning. They encourage students to discuss ideas through out the classes I’ve attended, however it never seems that anyone is confident enough to speak. I feel there should be work shops to solve these issues. There could be workshops to help students work on their confidence and become better equipped to handle lessons that require discussion and communication.
Currently not engaging and are a bit dull. Working with equipment in practical lessons have been a personal highlight
Bit dirty
