Excellent facitilies for the most part, lecture halls lacking space and sturdy desks for study - can be subsided for home study however, just hard to take notes. Great support from staff and students in second and third years who participate in our programming lab sessions to provide assistance to the tutor(s). Manchester is a desired city location and MMU is in the heart of the busy city centre. Can be quite exhausting and overwhelming at first to get used to but will adjust to the city life quickly - whether a commuter like myself, or someone living in halls.
It's still too early to do a complete conclusion however timetabled hours aren't too bad, some are inconvenient for myself as a commuter student but I have to deal with it. Great facilities for computing and mathematics, with software needed on most PCs. Even in the library, they have specialised software to my course however I don't try to use it as much due to spec requirements of software being more demanding so the library PCs are not the most suitable. Tutors are easy to contact with numbers, emails and socials given to us from induction week. Easy to find on Moodle and emails if lost, I like to use our course's specific Discord server to connect with classmates and the games tutors and programme leader. Not looking to go onto placement due to instability with games development careers at the moment but plenty of computing work placements and opportunities to take up. Also interesting volunteer programmes with RISE (university programme to earn extra course credits and develop skills for graduation) to count towards CV and personal skills. Sometimes there may be a lack of support with certain units as there are more than just games courses, however they provide plenty of self-study support and support classes at different times and different days throughout the week, to keep up-to-date. Can't take full advantage of this unfortunately as I commute and would prefer to study from the comforts of my home since trains can be unreliable.
Surrounding of campus is nice, but the course is not organised.
Good facilities but the timetable is unorganised,. Some lecturers are irresponsible
I love the facilities! We have access to loads of resources and the Brooks building is light and airy, perfect for studying in! Admin REALLY needs some work, timetable changes, lecturers thinking lectures are longer than they actually are, last minute exam time changes etc. and not letting us know when placements and start dates are with enough notice have plagued the course so far.
Some lecturers have been absolutely fantastic, understanding and empathetic to struggles on the course. Staff changes without us knowing have confused as to some extent, one of our lecturers ‘disappeared’ after the first term and has been replaced by a lecturer who does not know the topics to the same extent
Night life in Manchester is great Good public transport links Knowledgeable and approachable lecturers Modern and up-to-date buildings Impressive sustainability credentials Extensive physical library and online database access Wide range of study spaces
Little one-to-one time, although office hours are available
Uni accom closely located to uni campus. City centre just a short walk / shorter bus journey away! Lots of study and wellbeing support. Excellent library and study skill workshop services!
Good mixture of teaching styles, some lectures, some seminars or workshops, some delivered online. Course unit leaders are friendly and happy to assist you if needs be.
Great accommodation! Big, sociable lay out. All en-suite. Gym, games room and TV room included. 24/7 security and great reception team!
Best aspects are the amount of opportunities available to socialise and meet new people. The events are also a great aspect as they provide fun at an affordable price. The worst aspects would be how expensive the vending machines are in the library and the fifths floor of the library no longer being a social study space.
Best aspects would be the amount of support available from lecturers. The worst aspect would be that some of the lectures are not very engaging.
Like most - how social the accommodation is and how easy it is to make friends with people with the halls regardless of which flat they are in. Like least - the laundry facilities.
I love the amount of opportunities the university carries for students who can get small part time jobs or just general experience. It was expands my social circle and develops my skills such as confidence and communication
Can get hard however there is help when needed
Greattt place to be
Good
Making the 5th floor library a group zone , improving, cheap food places
Nothing
The University buildings are beautiful, the resources and the support is very good
It's good but I feel there's not much support about placements
