Its a great place to live and study. Supporting faculties and the scenic beauty of the place is the first thing come to my mind...
I think this course worth studying but still unsure about the skills I should develop for a better employability
The warm and inclusive environment, from the university faculty to the local Swansea community, truly makes you feel special and secure. This is a key reason why international students easily adapt and excel here. An area for potential improvement lies in diversifying the student body. It would be fantastic to strive for a more balanced or nearly equal representation of students from various nationalities, as it can be disheartening when a class is dominated by students from a single country.
Wow! What can I say? The teaching modules provided by our professors and lecturers are not only up-to-date but also incredibly engaging. As for the downsides, I can't think of any at the moment.
Bay campus is a good campus with well furnished facilities for studying. Travelling to and from campus is terrible with infrequent buses and long waits to get on a bus as the queues remain packed by the hundreds.
Learning is also dependent on the lecturer. Some don't put effort into lectures and are very difficult to contact, while some are good at presenting and make themselves available. The timetabling is very poor. There is a mix of a lot of lectures (including 2hr lectures) built ontop of eachother which can be very tiring as well as a lot of wasted time from having too large a gap in the day. It is again dependent on the lecturer/module, but assignments deadlines can massively vary. Some can be set well with a good amount of time to complete, while others that contribute a large part of the overall module mark are given a ridiculously short deadline. It comes across as the fact we have other modules to study isn't taken into account so things are piled onto eachother. Especially in Year 2, there is a large lack of quality in lectures and presentation of lectures, all of which we are paying extortionate prices for. For my first year, my tutor made absolutely no attempt to make contact and do their role as a tutor. In my second year however, I have been very impressed with my tutor who definitely seems to be making the effort.
I got an en-suite large bedroom. It was a very good bedroom and was great having an en-suite. My window frame did break however so I went most of the year only being able to use 1 of the 2 windows in my room. Cleaners were very frequent and good at cleaning the kitchen and hallway. The university did try to charge us for damage done to the roof in the hallway that was clearly done by previous year tenants so it took a lot of time before we could make the university understand it wasn't us that caused it and we weren't therefore liable for it. In this regard, the university and accommodation team weren't very understanding.
The best aspects of my university experience so far has been the numerous engaging events that the students’ union and various clubs have put together for freshers and how it has been a great way of socializing and making friends. The worst aspect has been the study load and numerous assignments with their deadlines
The best aspect of my course is the well prepared lectures and course content and the worse part has been the difficult level and assignments
One of the best parts of Swansea University are the people. Everyone is always friendly and ready to help you with whatever problem you may encounter and with a smile on their face. I have never experienced a university culture that is so welcoming and supportive. From the very first moment I received my acceptance email til now I have received endlessly supportive and resources to help me succeed. Truly a university worth going to. If I have to say one negative thing about Swansea university, it would be the weather. The weather is rather temperamental, changing between heavy rain to wind city to clear skies in 5 minutes and then back again. If the university staff could control the weather for their students I know they would. A suggestion would be to make the lecturer halls a bit warmer. Swansea University is a one of a kind place which I am grateful for to be a part of the student community.
My course is so broader and encompassing a wide range of interesting topics related to clinical psychology. I absolutely love going to class and learning from knowledge and supportive lecturer who are willing to guide you through the course. The course provides a vast amount of resources available to help assist students in achieving their academic goals, however, sometimes the large amount of information may lead to confusion and anxiety about the required work load.
The university accommodation has beautiful views and the rooms are spacious and clean. I love the community you build with your fellow flat mates which makes sharing a kitchen so much easier. It is so safe and convenient to get class on campus in under 5 minutes. If I could change anything it would be to put regulations in place to reduce the amount of noise at night, sometimes the university students coming home from partying make a lot of noise which travels all the way to the upper rooms.
I genuinely love the atmosphere of the university, for such a big change its gentle environment was a great comfort. I love the placement of the university as well, particularly because it is compatible with my course. However, it could improve on facilities such as accommodation as my particular building accommodates 18 peoples to a flat yet the facilities do not match the number of residences, such as having small food bins and seating area. We have also experienced a multitude of issues regarding windows, taps, showers, etc, showing that proper maintenance was not conducted since the previous tenants.
I think the lecturers pinpoint what is need-to-know information whilst also suggesting wider reading to broaden student’s knowledge, creating a good balance between contact hours and independent learning. The course could be slightly more varied but it is still relevant material. I don’t fully grasp what career prospects can be lined up for my particular course but hopefully as the year progresses more will come apparent. I meet with my tutor 3 times an academic year.
Thorough maintenance between academic years (i.e. between different tenants) should be carried out before students arrive in September. Me and my flatmates encountered a large number of issues throughout the flat, from windows not being able to close, both kitchen taps having hot water (health hazard if temperature builds up), broken benches in the kitchen. I also found a sock from the previous tenant in my bed too. Nevertheless, maintenance workers do respond to requests for repairs fairly quickly.
Very helpful and active staff and student support. Great student union and events. However the set up of the uni buses makes it very difficult to get to campus at a reasonable time, if you miss one your late.
All in person lectures but all the content is put up online making I really easy to prepare or catch up. The hours are very manageable and lectures and seminar leaders are very friendly and helpful
The staffs and students in Swansea University are very helpful and great. Facilities is something the university has to improve on, atleast at the Singleton Campus. But otherwise its lively and different activities are done every week to keep us engaged. Being a part of the discovery volunteering program, I would say, is the best part of the university.
The schedule isnt hectic and course content is interesting. It would be nice if we recieved more help but afterall its a university. Also, the academic centre is very helpful for preparing an assignment or exam.
The hall I stay at is a bit old, but its worth it. Having a dining card with money loaded into it by the uni helps a lot on the days we cant afford any time to cook. Apart from all that, its neat and quite area, just as I would want it.
Swansea university’s facilities are incredible. However, there is serious improvement needed in management. A lot of the time students have to deal with issues from the university. It feels like walking into a restaurant and cooking our own food. There are serious issues with the buses, and the university has not sorted this out after 3 years. If you study on bay, you are not allowed to park there or anywhere near by. This would be okay if there was adequate public transport but there isn’t. In terms of courses, the content in my lectures is brilliant, but some lecturers teaching is of a really poor quality. The university needs serious management training.
The timetable on my course was not thought about at all. I have a lecture and have to teleport myself to another campus for the next lecture. So my “in-person” course has become half in person and half streaming. This is because of the thoughtless decision to move half of my course to singelton campus which none of the dual honours are on. Half of my lecturers are excellent and the other half I struggle to understand, or don’t put any effort into teaching, a great lecturer doesn’t sit and read word for word what the PowerPoints say. My dual honours course is not accommodated. I would have rather selected one course than gone through the mismanagement of the two schools.
Loved every bit of it.
Friendly environment and support for students
Good course content and lectures
Very good facilities
