It has a wide range of strategic and departmental research centres which unite leading academics in progressing in their fields and across disciplines, driving new teaching, research and graduate opportunities. The university recently achieved top scores in the 2021 Research Excellence Framework assessment, which evaluates the impact and quality of research output from educational institutions. Since the 2014 assessment, Bath Spa has increased its research impact by 130% and its volume of ‘world-leading’ research by 60%.

Bath Spa University Students’ Union can be found on Newton Park campus and is a hub for student representation, social life and student services. The union is overseen by sabbatical officers who are elected annually to represent the student body and support students with a range of issues from academic to personal.
There’s a bar and cafe with a range of student-led gigs and events, a gym with discounted rates, and the Union Shop for all the essentials. Everything is run on a not-for-profit basis, meaning any income is put back into making the union even better for the students.
Run by students, clubs and societies are a great way to meet like-minded people and make friends outside of class. There are over 70 groups dedicated to everything from baking and musical theatre to a range of sports, such as netball or rugby. If a student’s passion isn't represented, they can set up your own.

The careers team offer information about different career paths and jobs, help finding and securing placements, internships or other work experience opportunities, start up and enterprise support, and more. Students can book one-to-one appointments with specialist career mentors or drop into the careers space at the Newton Park Campus.
Whatever course they’re studying, students can get hands-on industry experience and demonstrate their ability to secure and sustain graduate-level employment by completing a professional placement year. Lecturers and tutors also partner up with career professionals and industry experts to ensure that students are equipped with key employability skills.
Bath Spa graduates have gone on to work in interesting and diverse careers including roles at the BBC, NHS, National Trust, Bath Mind and setting up their own businesses.

As well as personalising your course through optional modules, you may have the chance to do a work placement during your studies. Developing your professional skills through work placements is a great way to add to your CV and boost your employability.
If you want a job you love (and who doesn't?), getting a job in a field you're passionate about is a great place to start. By studying a subject you really enjoy, you'll be qualified for a range of jobs relating to that subject, which you'll hopefully love.
