SU is slightly small but apart from this the vibe and look of campus is amazing. Sports facilities are unreal. Teaching is impressive too
Not much personal tutor time and no opportunities for work experience. Course it taught well with lots of additional work too to enhance the grade!
Rooms are big enough for studying and living in. Bathrooms rather old fashioned and small however fully functional so can’t really complain. Hall is close fo everything on campus. Opportunities to be very social with flatmates.
I think the university is really good so far, I didn't have any issues per se; I had more minor issues with classes though.
The course is generally great, I had a range of lecturers who are both helpful. and engage with the class. I loved those classes, and thankfully they were programming classes so I understood programming more with excellent teaching by those lecturers. Unfortunately, there were a few classes where it was really bad, with poor lecturers. These lecturers were either reading the slides word by word as if they saw these slideshows for the first time (literally) or lecturers who were not interested in the particular area that were assigned to teach the module, ending up not learning anything and not caring about this module, and praying to just "scrape a pass". I also had the case of one lecturer not coming up to lab sessions until the last one in the semester. This is extremely unacceptable. There's more I can add to teaching but I will just leave those points. The facilities are really good - I love the GRID building with its modern look, and its lab with 2 screens which makes it easier to manage my assignments etc. In case of tutoring, I am not sure what is the experience since my tutor has never contacted me even to check on me so I cannot comment on that. Note: I finished 1st year and I am going into 2nd year this september so my opinion may change.
Heriot Watt is an amazing university. For academic excellence i’m glad I opted for this university. The ambiance of this university helps you push yourself more. Especially the robotics lab is astounding as to how much this university has progressed. I really enjoy studying in this university. It’s a great place to socialise, make new friends and achieve your goals.
Sustainability helps me broaden my placement aspects. Since I am a student right now, I have a lot of fields I can work for and a lot of industries I can work in. I love my subject and it helps me induce my engineering knowledge in the vital aspects of processes.
As I am doing my studies online, I had some questions about past papers. However, I felt that there is a lack of past papers example for some numerical numbers. Apart from that, I have found the university to be very proactive in reaching out to online distant students.
So far the contents are good!
It features amazing state of the art design and textiles technology, the lecturers really know their stuff. However, the student support aspect leaves much to be desired - as a student with ADHD I have felt a huge lack of support. The student wellbeing team have been amazing, but the connect between the teachers and student wellbeing is non-existent. It's been amazing to see the industry connections and use the resources, but it would be great to see a bit more support for neurodivergents.
While in lockdown, we were very much online, but now it is all face to face which is brilliant. The teachers, as I said, really know what they're talking about, but aren't very amenable to helping different ways of learning, like me.
I wouldn't say these halls were value for money, I got a tiny en suite for a very high price, the cleaners were either on strike or had quit, so it was generally messy. The other people didn't seem to know how to look after their living space which was very stressful. There were security individuals around most of the time, they were generally lovely, but on some occasions they were very much not. In addition, we had a four hour power cut, where there were no staff around because they were on a work night out and hadn't arranged any cover. We were left alone in a power cut for the first two hours of four while waiting for a member of staff to come down from the Edinburgh campus. The halls are lovely and it was an experience I won't forget, but I would recommend it for the student experience, not the halls themself.
There needs to be prayer rooms in every floor for easy accessibility in between classes. The events organized by the student union has a lot of potential to be improved in terms of communication and inclusivity. Most of the events cater to people with an extroverted nature and even those are not that great. The university curriculum is really good and makes the studies interesting. Most of the professors I have had so far were great.

Heriot-Watt is a great university with a genuinely beautiful campus located in the countryside. The only downside being a longer travel time to get there. However, there are great public transport options that travel to the centre of Edinburgh at regular intervals. The campus is relatively modern and has great options for walks between classes. In terms of academics so far I have found my course interesting and staff have been as supportive as possible.
There isn’t much marine biology in the first two years of the course, however, this changes into third and fourth year. The course staff are great and lab facilities are also really good.
I found Heriot-Watt University to be an exceptional institution for higher education, providing a remarkable place to pursue my studies. Right from the initial stages of admission, the university showcased its commitment to student support, streamlining the application process for a seamless experience. The dedicated staff and faculty created a welcoming and supportive environment where I felt valued and encouraged to thrive. I am thankful for the team's unwavering support, as they consistently put in the effort and always found time
One of the outstanding aspects that I felt of Heriot-Watt University is the depth of knowledge and expertise the teachers have. They are not only accomplished educators but also actively involved in cutting-edge research. Their research contributions, which often get published as guidelines for design and innovative product development, showcase their commitment to solving real-life problems. Despite their busy schedules, the teachers prioritize their students' learning and dedicate time to provide high-quality education.
Excellent student support systems in place. Teaching staff care and are responsive to any issues or concerns.
Course is well structured. Broad range of subjects studied in first year which allows for flexibility down the line.
I am very thankful to university for all their time, effort and support
Again thankyou for everything, today I have a face in market because of you guys thankyou a lot
