The University is very basic and does not supply the equipment and facilities needed to teach artistic subjects. The equipment is impossible to take out and you need evidence of what you are filming, even though in the open day they stated you could take it out for personal use. Nope!

The university is lovely to look at but there’s not much else going for it, on my course specifically we don’t have access to a proper studio due to them cutting it, our one large set space is being taken down for open days which is ridiculous as it’s a great learning tool and so beneficial for film students. The support is very hard to get initially from all areas, academically there isn’t much help but the therapists are amazing.

the uni has an option for societies on its website, but every time i’ve clicked on them they’re not available to join :/

Having online class sometimes it becomes hard because of the internet connection, hard to understand the new programs etc... but other than that it being also great that having those problem it was a issue to not stop us completing our work.

The facilities are of a really high standard, and the uni is very encouraging of students to explore pathways beyond their course. However, there is little to no student support despite what the uni would like you to think, with students suffering from mental health issues not receiving adequate support from lecturers or pastoral staff. The quality of the teaching itself varies massively; while in 2020 this was obviously made harder with the pandemic, students are still struggling as material is not being covered in class.

What’s great: The facilities and access to equipment. Staff are nice and helpful - a lot of feedback is given and a lot of time is put in to focus on individual students’ work 1to1. The learning space is great, very modern and up to date facilities. Great location - near the O2 so lots of things to do in breaks and after studies. Great COVID safety, negative test is required to access the building. Improve: More access and links to industry work - work experience suggestions / placements. More extra curricular activities / events to attend to mix with other students.

I have enjoyed the lessons at rave, and i have gained so much valuable experience through working in small groups with other students to create extremely hands on content all within the first term. the lectures ar rave for DFP have been structured more like college lessons, allowing us to be in a classroom within the building on most days, with around one day per week in a larger hall (similar to an assembly hall)where we are taught by a small group of lecturers. Being within the city allows students at Rave to be able to travel and commute to thousands of locations via train or bus, giving a heavy advantage over other universities running film courses located further away from London. Students at rave are encouraged to use high quality kit while filming and preparing for projects, which is why it is brilliant that such equipment is available to book and use via our kit store. I personally have been able to use and learn so much about different film equipment from being able to have access to it during my film projects, which is why it is great that so much has been made available for us as students to use. Although there are many great things about Ravensbourne university, I do have to mention the level of organisation within the uni, as this is something that many students have had issues with and complained about very early on. Having said this, I am aware that the student representatives are currently working alongside staff members to resolve this issue to allow for a more positive learning environment, so i look forward to when this change is made. One of the main things that ravensbourne university is disadvantaged by is the lack of on site campus accommodation which most other universities have. It means that most of our students are living in shared accommodations with other students from different london based universities, and because there is only one rather expensive accommodation close by to ravensbourne, the majority of students are required to commute in. In spite of this, we are lucky to have amazing transport links at our doorstep, with North Greenwich Train and Bus Station a few minutes walk away, and the Emirates Air Line Cable Cars very close by too. On top of this, being so close to the river, some students are able to make sure of the Uber Boat service (RB1, RB2 and RB6 serve the pier in North Greenwich).
