The best experience of my life really. You meet incredible people in a lovely place that quickly feels like home. The life/study balance is excellent in almost all cases and there is never any danger of being bored.

Top class. The sports facilities are absolutely top of the range. We have some of the most successful sports teams in the country, and as a consequence we have large amounts of excellent facilities for use by everyone. The labs for my subject are also well stocked for equipment, regularly having money spent on them. Other facilities such as those in the forum for food etc provide plenty of options for lunch on campus.

I can't comment much on the personal support, but I am aware that it exists for those who need it. Academically it is excellent. The staff in my department are always friendly and willing to help anyone who needs it. They want people to succeed and it shows.

I don't really get involved as I don't think much is ever really accomplished by them. I am unsure if that's a criticism of the guild or simply a lack of interest in what they do. Certainly on big topics such as when lectures starts where moved forward, they didn't seem to have much of a say in representing student views.

Exeter is not a big city in the same way as London or Birmingham but it has charm in abundance. The life is slightly quirkier, with lots of coffee shops. There is a good pub scene though, which I personally enjoy a lot. And evening entertainment is enjoyable, if maybe not quite what those coming from big cities might dream of. I think it has a lovely feel to it though, and you are not short of things to do.e

Generally good at bringing people together. Sometimes they can become a little insular though and you really need to be part of an inner circle to be part of the society in some cases. However, they are in my experience still very willing to bring in those who make the effort.

I like the incredibly helpful staff in the physics department, who are aware that their course is amongst the hardest conceptually at the university. They ensure that they provide adequate materials to back up their lectures, such as problem sheets that let us test what knowledge we have absorbed. They also are very willing to provide assistance by email or in person whenever required. They try to make even quite bland topics as interesting as possible and clearly are very interested in their subject, which rubs off onto students. If I have to critique I would say that a few modules are poorly designed. They can sometimes be unneccesarily difficult.

The uni runs an award programme, called the Exeter Award, where students have to complete various employability tasks, such as seminars on CVs, workplacee behaviours and mock interviews. This is an optional award and runs in addition to things such as ExFactor, which is compulsory and teaches you about personalities. Work placements are freely available. There is an application system for many similar to that for an actual job. I have undertaken taster teaching weeks for example at a local school through the university. This was well run and very interesting, a excellent way to get insight into what it would be like in the workplace. In terms of casual work for experience purposes, the career zone has listings for large numbers of local jobs for anyone looking for experience in a sector or just looking for a way to make some money on the side. Transferrable skills is something that the university is very keen to stress. The courses themselves encourage us to develop things such as our problem solving, independant learning and various other important workplace skills.
