Tell us about your overall university experience so far.
I like everything that the university does. Especially I really enjoy that it is a campus university, and everything is available in one place.
However, I have been disappointed with my course. I feel like the first year is way too basic, and the knowledge and experience I get is not worth 9k pounds. However, I am ready to stay, as it appears that it will heavily improve during the second year, and I am excited for my future modules.
Facilities
How good are your university's facilities?
They are nice and renovated. University has been investing a lot of money in them.
Student support
How good is the support offered by the uni? Think both academic (tutors/feedback) and personal (counselling, etc).
It is okay. While some of them offer amazing service, others (most likely PhD students that need to teach in order to get their degree) are not passionate about it at all, and it heavily affects motivation and sometimes even grades
Students' union
What do you think of your Students' Union in terms of student representation and facilities?
While I hear lots of different negative opinions, my current experience has been very positive. They provide many different opportunities and are very responsive towards many queries.
On top of that they provide many different services: help with finding housing in town, a nightclub, a groceries store, and probably some that I have not heard of
Local life
Is your university in a good location in terms of distance to accommodation and local amenities?
A little boring. The city is small and there are not too many options available.
Societies and Sports
How would you rate the variety of societies/sports?
The variety is huge. I am sure that anyone can find one, if not more, that they would love.
Lecturers and teaching quality
What do you like most and least about the way your course(s) are taught?
In the first year my course has too little contact hours (11 per week). While we are expected to do independent study, I would much rather prefer if most of the study process was dependent on lectures.
I like that the course covers all the areas relating to managing a business. Starting from actual management modules, to marketing, accounting and others, and we even get modules that teach about organizational ethics
How many contact hours per week do you have?
11
Career prospects
How does your uni make efforts to increase your employability (careers department, work placements, transferable skills)?
Both the university and my own faculty provide a careers service that helps with many employability issues: CVs, cover letters, applications. They also organize many workshops and talks, many employers visit the campus. Lots of opportunities to gain experience by being in society exec, becoming an academic representative or volunteering.
However, it is way too hard to find a part-time job during studies, as almost half of all the population in the city is students, so there is not much room for real jobs.
University halls
What do you think about the safety, condition, location and cost of your accommodation?
I live with 7 other students, we share kitchen and bathroom facilities.
The rooms are nice and renovated and (relatively) spacious with an okay storage space (could be better, but is okay for me).
Cleaners come every week, and if anything is not in a good condition, it is only our own fault.
I am very satisfied with the accommodation, but I think that it is a little overpriced.
