I’m am enjoying both studying and uni life. I would like to carry on living here for the foreseeable future. I have and would recommend Portsmouth university to prospective students as it’s a great city to be a student in and the university offers a generally high standard of teaching. I am however concerned with crime here.

The library gets very busy but overall they are very good. There are many study areas and cafes around the uni buildings.

The student wellbeing services are great and very caring/responsive. Good feedback is offered for essays and all lecturers have drive hours.

It’s pretty good. Seems to be a disconnection between the union itself and societies but this seems to work. They do a lot of work to improve student life, especially safety due to increased crime recently.

Crime is a big problem which makes a lot of students avoid walking alone in the dark. Besides this, I have lived studying in Portsmouth.

There are so many on offer and vary massively. I love it.

A good mix of seminars and lectures. Some amazing lecturers abd sone less so. Most lecturers will learn your name which counts for a lot. All lecturers have office hours where we can discuss upcoming essays in particular.

There are lectures open to everyone in our school of study that help with this. There is an appropriately big push for placement years. The employability centre is very helpful in finding placements, with your cv and more.

I think the best aspects are the level and amount of support that the uni gives to the students with literally everything, from housing to just general well-being. They make such a genuine and strong effort to look after us as students and make sure we are on track and getting the most out of our degrees. And that’s not just once you become a student, but as soon as you show interest, the uni makes it known that they are here for the students. They also provide a lot of opportunity career wise or even part time jobs with things such as working as an ambassador for the uni or support with options for placement year/year abroad. They provide so many options and opportunities, we’re practically spoilt for choice. The only think I’d say is that they could do a better job of advertising these roles and opportunities slightly better. Being an ambassador is an amazing job but I didn’t even find out about it’s existence until my second year, and I didn’t find out about the other chances to work with the uni until I became an ambassador and I was in the loop, so I think it would be better if they advertised the opportunities they offer a lot more, rather than external opportunities. Just another quick point, the university is very understanding of extenuating circumstances, they are very flexible (obviously within reason) and provide many chances for you to stay on track with your degree. I think the only other thing i would say is that the university needs to be more reasonable and serious about which lecturers they hire. This is my second year and i have two lecturers which are only a couple of years older than me, and are obviously inexperienced at lecturing and teaching which makes me feel like i can't trust them as much with my education and learning. It takes away my motivation to come to class as i feel like I'm not getting value for my money. Other than that I think in general the lecturers are wonderful and genuinely nice people who do care about our education and delivering a good experience.

In my opinion, other than language cafe there aren’t really any other facilities specific to my faculty. If there are others which I’m unaware of, then the university obviously needs to do a better job in advertising those to me and other students on my course or in my faculty. I think the course itself is brilliant and has lots of interesting features in the lectures and I feel like the lecturers have our best interest at heart, despite me feeling like some of them are not experience enough to be teaching Level 5 applied languages.
